Caregiver Consultations
Are you involved in the care of an individual with dementia? I'd love to speak with you!
Be Light Care Consultations are provided virtually via Zoom for one hour with Adria Thompson. After each consultation, you will receive a post-consultation review document covering all the in-depth topics discussed.
"I FEEL LOST.
I KNOW SO LITTLE ABOUT DEMENTIA."
LET ME HELP YOU UNDERSTAND.
Far too often, the diagnosis of dementia is provided by a medical professional with no other follow up. Maybe you were given a pamphlet and then googled "dementia" on the way home from the appointment. There is so much information out there. How do you know where to start?
During our consultation, I will provide you with training in:
-
understanding the definition of dementia
-
the different types of dementia and how the most common symptoms
-
the stages of dementia and the amount of support each requires
-
common neurological impairments that impact a person with dementia’s behaviors and abilities
"I NEED HELP LEARNING
HOW TO PROVIDE CARE."
LET ME PROVIDE REAL-WORLD SOLUTIONS.
With everything I do, I want it to be functional. My advice and support will be practical and useful today. I also don’t just want to tell you what to do, but why. I don’t intend on you being reliant on me to provide care because I want you to understand the underlying problem so well that you can develop your own solutions to new problems on a daily basis.
During our consultation, I will provide you with:
-
tips and tricks for common problems of care such as issues during dressing, showering, taking medicine, eating, etc.
-
information regarding common products and equipment for individuals with dementia and how to determine if it is appropriate
-
training and demonstration of recommended communication techniques and approach strategies
"HOW CAN I BE PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE?"
LET ME HELP YOU PLAN FOR WHAT'S TO COME.
Perhaps one of the scariest parts of dementia is the uncertainty of the future. You may have heard horror stories of other's experiences and you lay in bed at night wondering if that will be the case for you and your loved one. Although we can never predict with certainty what lies ahead, I can help you plan for how to be prepared.
During our consulation, I will provide you with:
-
resources for how to obtain in home care and support in the community
-
guidance in understanding the different levels of care communities and the services they provide
-
recommendations for referrals for other medical providers that can be part of your care team
-
expectations of the progression of dementia
YOUR
PERSONALIZED
FOLLOW-UP DOCUMENT
After our consultation, I will provide you with a detailed document outlining everything discussed during our virtual session. It will include definitions of the terms discussed, examples of scripts to say when bringing up tough topics, links to recommended resources, photos of how to implement interventions, etc. This way, you don't have to focus on taking notes and we can spend all our time finding solutions to the issues you are facing.
Here you will find an example document
you may receive after our session.
